79th annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo takes over Colorado Springs

The 79th Annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo is back and once again, all proceeds will go to the military here in Colorado Springs.

Grant Adkisson, president of the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, said: “Since 1946, we have all volunteers, about 350-some volunteers, and we are not paying them to do this. All of the proceeds go to military support.”

Last year, they were able to raise $189,000 this year they hope to break 200,000.

General Manager of the PPOBR Cory Wall said, “You know, not only is it a great rodeo, this community supports it really well, but I think it’s because what the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo does. You know, we get a lot of money, sponsorships, advertising, ticket sales and things like that but, what they do is they don’t just pad the bank, they give it back.”

Grant Adkisson, who has been attending this event since he was a child, is this year’s president. He says this event will feature something brand new, “Hank’s Market Place is one of the huge ones. Our big indoor arena right below the stadium will be full of 100 and some vendors with some great shopping opportunities.”

And as for what you can expect in the arena, “We got bareback riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, of course, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding and then bullfighting,” said Adkisson.

Gates open at 4 pm where you can enjoy the Fan Zone and new Hank’s Market and the event starts at 7 pm. Wall says don’t be late.

“Not 7:01 or 7:02 — 7 p.m., we bust through those gates and we got horses running full blast through the arena,” said Wall.

As for ticket pricing, it ranges anywhere from 18 to 50 dollars so make sure to come early and avoid the rush.
