UPDATE: Pueblo Water suggests drinking bottled water to avoid contamination after main break

Update: Pueblo Water crews are in the process of collecting water samples from the main break to ensure that there has been no contamination. A large main break can sometimes result in contamination, although none has yet been detected.

Final results of these tests will be available Sunday evening. In the meantime, Pueblo Water officials ask all customers in the affected areas to drink from bottled water or boil their water for 5 minutes before consuming. The affected areas are on W. 4th St. and run from Grand Ave. to Court St.

Businesses in the 300 block of W. 4th Street will be out of service until repairs are completed Sunday evening. The cause of the main break is not yet known.

As required by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, crews will also be flushing fire hydrants within the afflicted area to ensure water quality.

Officials say intersections from Grand to Main Street on W. 4th remain heavily flooded and may be closed for days. Areas of W. 4th St are raised and buckled from the water pressure.

Businesses in the area and homes near downtown Pueblo are without water, although they should begin getting water again soon.
