Thousands fill up Memorial Park for 4th July fireworks show

Thousands of people filled up Memorial Park to hear live music, relax in the sun and most importantly, watch fireworks for the 4th the of July!

Patricia Jones who comes to the park every year says it’s her, “family tradition since I was born and raised here, and we do this every year. We look forward to it.”

Most families bring their own chairs and tents and play a game of ball to pass the time before the big show.

Other families go to the park for the food you can only find at outdoor events like these.

Mike Garcia who came with his son-in-law’s family said, “it’s pretty great to have everyone come together, no drama just mellow. It’s great.”

The biggest difference in this year’s celebration was the weather. No rain or thunderstorms delayed the show.

Brooklyn and Olivia Sands who visit their father in Colorado Springs every summer say it’s usually ruined.

“Every time we do something, it rains so it sucks. Every year on the 4th of July, it rains,” they explain.

Others say they prepare, just in case, bringing in their own umbrellas and rain gear.

This year, the fireworks show went on just after 9 p.m. ending shortly before 10 o’clock.
