Update: 2 lanes reopened at Northgate on southbound I-25. The Northgate off ramp has also reopened. The right lane remains closed for cleanup operations — drive safely and watch out for emergency vehicles.
Previous Story:
A hazardous material spill has been reported on southbound I-25 at mile marker 154.5, blocking all southbound lanes at Northgate.
According to emergency dispatch, the material is liquid ammonium nitrate — a combustible compound commonly found in fertilizer. The truck possibly began leaking the liquid in Larkspur. Officers at the scene have been warned to avoid touching and stepping in the liquid.
WATCH:
CDOT cautions drivers to watch for emergency crews. Colorado Springs State Patrol says that the lanes will reopen no earlier than 10 p.m. They recommend a detour at exits at Northgate, Baptist, or H105.
