Arrest made following serious hit-and-run crash in Pueblo

A 31-year-old woman was arrested Thursday morning following a serious hit-and-run crash that sent a 71-year-old man to the hospital.

Police were called to the intersection of Mesa Ave. and East Evans Ave. on June 26 for reports of a traffic collision.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the female suspect had run from the scene and a 71-year-old man was seriously injured.

The car was hit at a 90-degree angle and flipped onto its top. The man was taken to the hospital with four broken lumbar vertebrae, broken ribs, a possible brain bleed and numerous lacerations and bruises.

The man has since returned home from the hospital.

Traffic investigators were able to identify Jessica Hunyadi, 31, as the suspect.

On July 3 officers arrested Hunyadi and charged her with failure to remain at the scene after the accident causing serious bodily injury, failure to notify police of the accident and careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.
