CSPD: Drunk man thinks woman is stealing his car, ends up stealing hers
A man suspected to be under the influence of alcohol allegedly walked up to a car that he thought was his in the downtown Colorado Springs parking garage, fought with the driver, pulled her out of the car and then drove off before crashing it.
Police say the car that 21-year-old Ignacio Medina crashed was the same make, model and color, but it was located on a different floor of the parking garage. Now Medina is facing numerous criminal charges, including robbery.
It happened at about 1:50 a.m. Friday at the garage on Kiowa Street. Police say Medina was “convinced the victim was getting into his vehicle” despite the victim showing him her keys and the out-of-state license plates on the vehicle.
Medina was still adamant the vehicle was his, so he forcibly pulled the woman out, punched her, and then drove off. It wasn’t long before Medina hit a parked car and almost hit a pedestrian, according to police. He bailed from the vehicle and tried to run away, but officers quickly caught him.
The woman suffered minor injuries
Medina was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
