Yelp now shows hygiene score for Colorado Springs restaurants

The local review website Yelp is adding another metric to Colorado Springs restaurants that may sway your decision on what to get for dinner: hygiene scores.

Now, you can look through eateries in Colorado Springs online and check out how clean they are in addition to their prices, menus, and reviews. The scores are displayed as a number out of 100.

Yelp teamed up with HDScores for the ratings. HDScores pulls that data from local health departments when available, but it calculates the scores for Colorado Springs restaurants based on past inspection results. (Find out about their methodology by clicking here.)

The website says that a researcher found the hygiene score program in Louisville, Kentucky, “significantly reduced rates of severe food poisoning” compared to the rest of the state.

There’s no way to sort by highest or lowest hygiene score at this point, and not every restaurant in the Springs has a hygiene score on Yelp.

Here’s a look at the top 10 recommended Colorado Springs restaurants on Yelp and their current hygiene scores:

1. Shuga’s – no score yet
2. The Rabbit Hole – 87
3. Phantom Canyon – 91
4. Skirted Heifer – 89
5. Mountain Shadows – 67
6. Odyssey Gastropub – 79
7. Piglatin Cocina – 83
8. Monse’s Pupuseria – 90
9. Denver Biscuit Co. – no score yet
10. Garden of the Gods Market and Cafe – 87
