Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Very Warm Again – 6/8/19

Today: Partly cloudy, breezy at times and warm again with high temperatures in the 80s to lower 90s for the plains, mainly 70s over the mountains. Most of the day looks to remain dry but showers and thunderstorms may begin developing over the Pikes Peak Region very late in the day or more likely this evening.

Tonight: A cold front will move southward across the area this evening kicking up the wind and cooling the air. Along the leading edge of this cold front scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected with the best coverage of thunderstorms likely to the north and east of Colorado Springs and Pueblo where the strongest cells could be severe. As the colder air settles in tonight areas of low cloud cover, patchy fog, drizzle and light rain should develop. By morning we expect the air will have cooled into the 40s and 50s for most areas, but some of our local mountain communities, particularly in Teller county, may fall into the 30s .

Sunday: The morning hours look cloudy with areas of light rain, drizzle and fog possible. Sunday afternoon looks to be mostly cloudy for many areas, breezy and much cooler with high temperatures only in the 50s and 60s for the plains, 40s and 50s over the mountains. The cool air will likely keep thunderstorms from developing over the plains Sunday afternoon, but a few showers and possibly some weak thunderstorms could develop over the mountains.

Extended: The air should warm into the 60s and 70s for the plains on Monday, with 70s and 80s returning to the plains on Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms look to be confined to mainly mountain areas on Monday, especially to the southwest of Pueblo, but a shower or two could drift over the I-25 corridor late. Tuesday looks to be breezy and mostly dry across the area. Another cold front should reach the area late Tuesday into Wednesday but it shouldn’t cool the air as much as the cold front that arrives tonight. Thursday and Friday look very warm with high temperatures back into the 80s for many areas on the plains on Thursday; 80s and 90s on Friday. Thunderstorms look to remain pretty spotty through the latter half of the week with perhaps an uptick in the coverage of thunderstorms as we move into next weekend.
