Man dies in rafting accident on Colorado’s Eagle River

A man has died in a rafting accident on Colorado’s Eagle River.

Vail Daily reports that emergency crews in Avon responded to calls around 1 p.m. Thursday and performed CPR but failed to resuscitate the man, who was not identified.

Authorities say five men in their 20s and 30s were in a raft on the Eagle River that flipped and threw them into the water after hitting a high wave east of Avon.

Only four of the men managed to reach the riverbank. One of the rafters located nearby golfers, who called 911.

The fifth rafter was found floating near an apartment complex in the town 107 miles west of Denver.

Authorities say all the men wore safety gear including personal flotation devices, helmets and drysuits.
