105-year-old woman dies days after crash in Colorado Springs
A two-vehicle crash in southeast Colorado Springs last Thursday sent a 105-year-old woman to the hospital, but she died Wednesday due to her injuries.
Colorado Springs police say the crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. at the intersection of S. Circle and Verde drives. (MAP)
Police say an Acura was driving south on Circle and tried to make an unprotected left turn on Verde when a Cadillac going north crashed into the Acura.
Leone Darnold, 105, was a passenger in the front seat of the Cadillac and she was seriously injured in the crash. Darnold was taken to the hospital that day, but she succumbed to her injuries this week, CSPD said Thursday.
The drivers of both vehicles and one other passenger in the Acura suffered minor injuries, according to CSPD.
All of the people involved were wearing their seat belts, and speed and alcohol/drug impairment weren’t factors in the crash, investigators said.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no criminal charges have been announced.
Darnold’s death is the 17th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year.
