A roughly 4-hour standoff ended with a man firing at CSPD officers, and officers firing back Saturday night.

It happened on the northwest side of town in the 4200 block of Forrest Hill Road.

Police say the standoff was the result of a domestic dispute that escalated.

A woman and child were able to be safely removed from the residence, while a man remained inside.

CSPD officers were on the scene in increased tactical gear trying to get a man out of the house. A K-9 unit and SWAT unit also responded. CSPD Public Information Officer Lt. Jim Sokolic said officers did have contact with the suspect via phone at one point.

It was after 9 p.m. when KRDO crews heard flash bangs and gunshots come from the direction of the residence.

Springs Police have now confirmed the suspect fired at officers, and at least one officer fired back. At least one officer has been placed on paid administrative leave. No CSPD officers were injured in the situation.

On Thursday, the suspect was identified as 29-year-old Sean Collins.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is now taking over the investigation.
