Cheyenne Mountain Zoo welcomes baby two-toed sloth
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the place to be in southern Colorado if you love sloths — a new baby two-toed sloth was just born Tuesday!
The zoo says its 19-year-old sloth Chalupa gave birth around noon Tuesday.
Chalupa is a first-time mom, and her pregnancy came as a surprise to zoo staff, who made the discovery during unrelated veterinary testing.
“This baby was worth the wait, though. It’s pretty cute, with dark fur, really dark eyes and the most adorable little nose. Chalupa and the baby are bonding well, and we’re excited to watch this little sloth grow up,” said Joanna Husby, an animal care manager at the zoo.
The baby’s gender won’t be known for a few months, so they’re not thinking about naming it just yet.
Chalupa and her baby will be visible to guests at the Monkey Pavilion.
