Home prices in Colorado Springs continue to climb

Nearly every month in the past five years, the prices of homes in Colorado Springs have increased.

Though we’ve heard it time and time again, it remains true: Colorado Springs is a hot housing market. We’ve brought you story after story of the struggles buyers face.

“I’m looking for something more affordable but as I look at the market, there’s not much out there,” said Christy Clayburn.

We’ve also reported on the competitiveness people experience while looking for their home.

“In that same day they were like, ‘No, they took another offer,'” said Erika Williams.

Both of those women spoke to us two years ago, but Bill McAfee with Empire Title says buyers are still battling the same problems.

“Here in April we have had between 5 and 10 offers on properties,” he said.

Colorado Springs has been voted one of the best cities to move to, even though home prices are on the rise.

“It’s just the place to live right now. The climate’s good, there are jobs here. I mean the job market is unbelievable. If you want a job in Colorado Springs, you have it,” he said.

According to the real estate website Zillow, the median home is about $304,000. That price has been increasing every month for five years.

Even with prices going up, on average, houses are only on the market for a couple of days, creating a market that favors sellers. A market that according to McAfee can continue for a while.

“Through the summer I anticipate the days on market to continue to go down because the demand is absolutely there,” he said.
