City wants your input on Colorado Springs housing affordability
It’s probably one of the most frequent criticisms in the comments section anytime Colorado Springs is named one of the best places to live in the U.S.: It’s too expensive to live here.
Now the city is working on an Affordable Housing Plan, and there’s a survey running to get your input on the cost of renting or buying in Colorado Springs.
You can find the survey by clicking HERE.
Colorado Springs has been consistently named a hot housing market and one of the best cities to move to, but rents have been steadily rising and outpacing income.
That last part is important because rents in Colorado Springs have outpaced wages four-fold over the past five years. Rent has gone up 31% but household wages only went up 8.2%, and it’s even worse for low-income renters.
At the same time, the housing market in Colorado Springs has also skyrocketed. In 2014, the median sale price for a home was about $194,000, according to real estate website Zillow. Monday, the median sale price in Colorado Springs was listed at $304,000.
The city wants the input to “identify the most appropriate strategies to create and preserve affordable housing stock, and assist tenants and homebuyers,” according to the survey.
