The Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel will remain open through the summer months.

A spokesperson with the AFA confirmed the news to KRDO Wednesday., saying the Chapel will close on Sept. 1.

The date is tentative and could change at any time. The repair work was originally scheduled to take four years, the AFA spokesperson reports that there has been no change to the time needed to repair the historic building.

The chapel was originally supposed to close on June 17 due to renovations, but the money that was set aside to fund the project went towards Hurrican Michael damage at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida.

Originally constructed in 1962, the chapel rises 150 feet into the sky and is highlighted by seventeen iconic metallic spires. Nearly eight-hundred thousand tourists visit the chapel each year making it the number one man-made tourist attraction in Colorado.
