4/27/19 Weather discussion
Sunday: Starting off the day with sunshine peeking through partly cloudy skies, but turning mostly cloudy by mid-afternoon. It’ll be a windy day with gusts reaching up to about 35mph with high temperatures into the 70’s and 80’s. After 5pm is when I would expect a few showers to spill over into the lower elevations of El Paso County.
Extended: It’s late Sunday night when a strong cold front will move through Colorado and bring an end to the warm temperatures. Monday will be a rainy, cold and even snowy day. Temperatures will barely reach into the 40’s for Colorado Springs. Precipitation will start off as rain Monday afternoon then change to snow Monday night. Winter storm watches have been issued by the national weather service for mountainous areas west of Colorado Springs for that time frame. Accumulation totals in the lower elevations of El Paso County will remain quite minimal, less than an inch. But the impacts will be slick, slushy and potentially snow-covered roads along with limited visibility in the heavier snow bands. Make sure to stay tuned to the forecast for your Monday evening commute.
