Police are still investigating the shooting and don’t have anybody in custody at this time.

Police in Fountain are investigating a deadly shooting near the Applebee’s restaurant.

Officers were called to the 6400 block of Highway 85 late Sunday night, between Applebee’s and IHOP. When they arrived they found a man who was already dead.

“I’m walking down the sidewalk, I saw the police lights flashing and I’m thinking, ‘where the man’s body was laying it must of been a hit and run,'” said Gale Dougherty, who walked past the crime scene.

The Fountain Police Investigations Unit is taking over this case. So far, no one’s been arrested but police say there’s no threat to the community. They also believe this is an isolated incident.

“From the information we have we understand the two had some kind of relationship. We’re not sure what that was, if it was a friendship or an acquaintance,” said Lisa Schneider with Fountain police Department.

A description of the suspect hasn’t been released, Schneider says they continue to interview witnesses and have had several tips from the community.

This incident marks the first homicide of the year for Fountain. Last year Schneider said they had one murder total.

“This is kind of a rarity in our city, it’s just a reminder this can happen anywhere, anytime,” she said.

The victim has been identified to KRDO by friends and family, though we are waiting until the coroner and police are able to confirm it.
