Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – A Few Warm Days Ahead – 4/7/19

Today: We expect some mountain wave clouds may begin developing over the area during the afternoon, but the plains should still warm well into the 60s to near 70 with 50s again over the mountains. The wind should remain pretty light for most areas today although the far eastern plains may be a bit breezy at times. A few sprinkles or flurries could develop over the mountain peaks late but we don’t expect much precipitation anywhere today.

Tonight: Partly cloudy with low temperatures in the 30s and 40s for the plains, mainly 30s for the mountains.

Extended: The work week will start out warm with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s on Monday. A shallow layer of cooler air looks to remain to our northeast on Tuesday, and if so we expect the air to warm into the 70s and 80s over the plains during the afternoon. We do expect some mountain wave clouds to obscure the sun at times early next week, and the wind will pick up noticeably on Tuesday. Wednesday looks to be a transition day for the area as a cold front arrives ushering in an extended period of colder and unsettled weather. The wind will be strong on Wednesday, and although the day may start out pretty warm we do expect sharply colder air to race across the area during the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will change to snow showers over the higher terrain late Wednesday, and although the heaviest snow should remain to our north it is possible that some accumulating snow will fall over the higher terrain into Thursday morning. Chilly air will stick with us through the end of the week and a few snow showers are expected mainly over the mountains. Saturday will warm a little and southern areas may still have a few rain and/or snow showers.
