KRDO investigates complaints against local roofing contractor
We’re investigating complaints against a local roofing contractor ” Aspen Peaks Roofing ” based out of Colorado Springs.
” It’s really disheartening that you can’t trust people, ” said Kayle Higinbotham , staring at her roof that still sits unfinished.
“The fire got really close, ” said Higinbotham , pointing to the Waldo Canyon burn scar behind her property. ” We’ve been through this and the floods, and now this nightmare. ”
Higinbotham’s describing the mess she’s in after paying Aspen Peaks Roofing to fix her roof after those torrential summer hail storms.
” I hired [Nathan Hardage] back in August and our agreement was we would get this done before the winter snow, ” Higinbotham said.
But did that happen? Not quite. Higinbotham said she paid Hardage $21,000 but only got stuck with a portion of her roof taken off and left that way for four months during the winter.
” Then we had l eaking from all those heavy storms, it was horrible, ” she said.
Kayle said after countless calls, Hardage eventually sub-contracted Total Roofing to finish the job, because he didn’t have the correct permits to do it himself.
But, according to that Adam Fox with that company, they never got paid.
KRDO asked Fox how much Nathan owed him.
” About $21,500, ” said Fox.
Note: We’ve since heard from Hardage who said he has paid Fox.
So our team called Hardage directly to hear his side, asking directly if he had any intention on paying Adam Fox back.
” Yes, I do, ” said Hardage .
It’s been several months, so we questioned further when that was going to happen, but in our first interview, Hardage directed us to his attorney. KRDO called his attorney and are waiting to hear back.
But, after doing more digging, our team discovered Aspen Peaks Roofing has an “F” rating with the Better Business Bureau. Plus, several complaints with the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department.
“The amount of hardship he’s put us all through, not only emotionally, but financially, our time, money, and energy, ” said Higinbotham , who’s still stuck with broken gutters, and both her skylights and a portion of her roof left exposed.
Note: Nathan Hardage did call our team back again and said he has taken care of the situation, given Total Roofing has completed the work needed to finish Kayle’s home.
