Last-minute voters drop off ballots for municipal election
With just hours left, voters are still dropping their municipal ballots off for the 2019 municipal election in Colorado Springs.
The mail-in only election is getting a good turn-out. As of Monday night, 74,067 or about 28.56% of the population in Colorado Springs have voted.
Naturally, there are always some people who wait until the last minute.
Jamie Oberloh said, “I dragged my feet and delayed.”
John Spangler said he enjoyed leaving dropping his off in person.
The 2019 Municipal ballot doesn’t have much, but the issue on it matter to voters.
Lindsay Lohr cast her vote hoping her voice would matter in the race for mayor. “I think that’s important,” she said.
Others said they wanted to “support firefighters,” by voting on Issue 1, which would give them the right to collectively bargain their salaries.
Outside the City Administration Building, election officers are collecting ballots from car windows. They’re hoping to make the process faster for people who don’t want to get out of their cars.
Ballot boxes close at 7 p.m. Preliminary results are expected soon after.
