Gov. Polis orders flags lowered for Fort Carson soldier

Sgt. 1st Class Will Lindsay’s body will be returning to Colorado Wednesday after he died in Afghanistan, and Gov. Jared Polis has ordered the Colorado flag to be lowered statewide in his honor.

From sunrise Wednesday to sunset next Tuesday, all Colorado flags on state-owned facilities will be lowered to half-staff.

Lindsay is originally from Cortez, and he joined the Army in 2004. He was a well decorated Green Beret assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Carson. Among many honors, Lindsay has been awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

He died on March 22 while conducting dismounted maintenance operations in the Kunduz Province of Afghanistan. He leaves a wife and four daughters behind.

Lindsay’s body will return to Colorado Springs on Wednesday. A unit memorial service will be held April 9.
