Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Still Unsettled – 3/31/19
Today: Another wave will affect mainly the Sangre de Cristo Mountains today with additional snowfall that may accumulate several inches, especially from about La Veta Pass southward. Scattered snow showers are possible over and near the rest of our local mountain areas as well but it appears unlikely accumulations of snow would exceed an inch on the grass anywhere else during the day on Sunday. The plains east of I-25 should remain partly to mostly cloudy with an afternoon breeze and possibly some brief rain and/or snow showers either near the mountains or farther east mainly along and south of the Arkansas River. Sunday will be chilly again with high temperatures only in the 40s to lower 50s for the plains, mainly 30s over the mountains.
Tonight: Any evening rain and snow showers should come to an end then decreasing clouds through the night. The air will be a bit chilly again tonight with low temperatures mainly in the 20s.
Extended: Monday looks mostly sunny and warmer with high temperatures in the 50s to lower 60s for the plains with mainly 40s over the mountains. Tuesday should feature a bit more cloud cover and a more noticeable afternoon breeze but we expect dry and mild conditions again. A weak system should bring colder air and enough instability to the area for increasing clouds, scattered showers and possibly a little thunder Wednesday afternoon, but it will remain warm enough that we expect rain at lower elevations with a mixture of rain and wet snow over the mountains and Palmer Divide. We expect high temperatures Wednesday afternoon to reach the 40s and 50s for the plains with 30s and 40s over the mountains. Thursday should be breezy, warmer and dry but a few showers may return to parts of the area on Friday.
