Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Slick Start for Some – 3/30/19
Today: Expect some slick roadways over the higher terrain this morning thanks to the snow that fell last night and early this morning. Snow showers are most likely to continue over and near the higher terrain this morning before winding down later today. The wind will be noticeable this morning with some gusts over 20 mph at times, and while most of the day will be breezy we do expect the wind to gradually lighten up through the afternoon. Expect a mixture of clouds and sun during the afternoon for most areas with a few flurries or light snow showers intermittently over the mountains where little to no additional accumulations of snow should be expected. The air will remain chilly this afternoon with temperatures in the 30s to lower 40s for the plains, mainly 30s over the mountains.
Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy with a few flurries possible over the mountains at times, but we don’t expect any significant snowfall through the night. Patchy low clouds may develop over the plains late. The air will be cold tonight with low temperatures in the teens over the mountains, mainly 20s for the plains.
Extended: Another wave will affect mainly the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on Sunday with additional snowfall that may accumulate several inches. Scattered snow showers are possible over and near the rest of our local mountain areas as well but it appears unlikely accumulations of snow would exceed an inch anywhere during the day on Sunday. The plains east of I-25 should remain partly to mostly cloudy with an afternoon breeze and possibly some brief rain and/or snow showers that shouldn’t amount to much. Sunday will be chilly again with high temperatures only in the 40s to near 50 for the plains, mainly 30s over the mountains. Monday looks mostly sunny and warmer with high temperatures in the 50s to lower 60s for the plains with mainly 40s over the mountains. Tuesday should feature a bit more cloud cover and a more noticeable afternoon breeze but we expect dry and mild conditions again. A weak system should bring enough instability to the area for increasing clouds and scattered showers Wednesday afternoon, but it will remain warm enough that we expect rain at lower elevations with a mixture of rain and wet snow over the mountains. We expect high temperatures Wednesday afternoon to reach the 60s for the plains with 40s and 50s over the mountains. Thursday should be breezy, mild and dry, a few showers may return to the area on Friday.
