Teary-eyed supporters attend 12th Bald 4 Bucks at Rampart High School

The 12th annual Bald 4 Bucks assembly kicked off Friday morning at Rampart High School, raising money for cancer research.

“It’s insane to see the implications of our actions and see that we can actually change the lives of people around the world,” said school president Brendan Flewelling.

This year, the students, faculty, staff and community members honored one special child: 11-year-old Maddie Kirk was diagnosed with leukemia when she was only four. Just last year, she was diagnosed again — this time with lymphoma.

“You kicked cancer’s butt again little girl, there’s nothing you can’t do I promise,” Maddie’s sister Rachel told her, with tears in her eyes.

Many people were teary-eyed in the audience, causing them to choose to shave their heads for those who don’t have the choice.
