Rideshare drivers on alert after Uber driver killed in Denver
A multi-state crime spree that impacted victims in Colorado Springs and Denver included an Uber driver being killed after a carjacking gone wrong.
It was the most heinous crime suspect, Matthew Fanelli, is charged with.
Fanelli shot and killed David Rosenthal, and Uber driver working to support his wife and kids.
Despite the fact that they do not deal in cash, it’s far from the only violent incident that ridesharing drivers have reported in recent months.
In August, an Uber Driver who picked up the man accused of shooting CSPD officer Cem Duzel canceled the ride with him because of aggressive behavior.
In October, Springs Police said another man hit his Uber driver in the face and tried to sexually assault her and then stole her car.
Cherie Prosser, who drives for Uber, said these incidents, especially the one of Denver make her uneasy.
“Bothersome that you know that happens, and you know it happened here and we’re all just trying to earn a living, you know to make extra money,” Prosser said.
Prosser said she does try to take extra security precautions and said a feature Uber has added to the driver app, like quick access to 911 and location sharing has helped give her peace of mind.
