State Wrestling Semifinals and Unified matches
We started with the annual unified matches, which included Cheyenne Mountain’s Kai Barnes, a natural entertainer.
Pueblo County’s Brendan Garcia grinded out a 7-4 semi-final win to move just one match away from history, “No right now I’m just going to go back get some rest and then worry about winning in the morning and recovery tomorrow,” says Garcia.
At 106 pounds, freshamn Brady Hankin of Woodland Park will make his first appearance in the state title match. As is Canon City’s James Ruona at 132 pounds after beating Coronado’s Angel Flores,
“I’m a senior and I’ve taken 3rd the last 3 years so it’s really a step up going to the finals this year,” says Ruona.
Ryan Roth helped keep Pueblo East atop the 4A team standings with a win at 126 pounds, he’ll face defending state champ Patrick Allis from Discovery Canyon, “Felt awesome man I’m so ready to finish this high school career off with a bang. I’m so ready for it, ready to go out there and have my hardest match of the season right here,” says Allis.
Finally, Tyson Beauperthuy of Doherty’s into the finals at 152 pounds with a sense of redemption, “I was beating people that were beating me the last two years and it feels good to redeem myself. I’m here for a state title,” says Beauperthuy.
