State Wrestling Day Two – Quarterfinals
Pueblo East and County, jockeying atop the team standings and duking it out on the mat. At 160 pounds County’s Chris Fasano pushed his perfect record to 42 and oh by defeating East’s Diego Duarte but he left the match disappointed, “I let myself get a little flustered out there because I wasn’t scoring as much as I wanted to. If I would have listened to my coaches more I would have gotten the tech and got us extra team bonus points. I’m kind of kicking myself about it but at least I got the win,” says Fasano.
The Eagles secured a few bonus points at 132 pounds when Jace Trujillo won by pin leaning on the wisdom of his East teammates, “I wrestled calm, I took my shots when I thought they were needed. It helped me a lot honestly in the room we just battle, we don’t even stop we keep going,” says Trujillo.
From Pueblo West Hayden Crosson won by major decision to punch his ticket to the 152 pound semi’s. As did Canon City’s Gage Pruitt at 220 pounds with a 6-3 win over Centennial’s James Gallery
and at 182 pounds, a young man that suits his name, Air Academy Brady Badwound, back in the semi’s after a 13-2 win over Michael Bird of Falcon, “I’m not afraid to get a black eye or bust up my lip or teeth or my nose. I’m just going 100-percent all the time. I feel like kids that are afraid you can definitely tell by how timid they wrestle and I’m not that kid,” says Badwound.
