Weather alert day: Snow, icy roads across southern Colorado

TODAY: Light to moderate snow showers will continue during the morning hours Monday, with a break in the snowfall during the early afternoon. Roads will likely be snow covered for much of the morning after the Colorado Springs area got about an inch and a half of snow.

Temperatures will stay cold today with highs only in the teens. Winds sustained at 10-15 mph will allow for some blowing and drifting. The combination of frigid temperatures and wind will cause wind chill values to drop below zero at times.

Several crashes were reported on Interstate 25 throughout the morning, causing significant slowdowns and delays throughout the area. Colorado Springs Police is currently on accident alert status. That means if no one is injured, neither driver was intoxicated, and all vehicles are legal, then exchange information and report the crash to police later on. TONIGHT: Snow showers return this evening making for slick to snow-covered roads overnight. Winter weather advisories in El Paso County expire at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Additional snowfall accumulation 2-4″. Temperatures remain cold with low’s down to about 4 degrees with below zero wind chills. Winds out of the SE at 10 mph.

TOMORROW & EXTENDED: Snow showers likely through much of the day. Accumulation will be light and taper off the later we get into the day. Mostly cloudy skies with temperatures just slightly warmer than today as Colorado Springs will get to about 19. Winds remain light thankfully at 5-10 mph.
Extended Forecast: The snow showers push east of Colorado by Wednesday morning. Conditions improve drastically during the day as we’ll see plentiful sunshine and high temperatures back into the 30s. Light winds at 5-10 mph. Next chance of snow is looking to be Thursday night. Minimal snow event compared to today and tomorrow.
