Beulah fire department hoping for more snow before fire season
With more winter weather coming into southern Colorado Monday night, towns like Beulah and Rye are expected to be two of the hardest hit areas.
Even though its been snowing on and off for months, more snow is a welcome sight for some people in the city of Beulah, especially at their fire department.
Beulah Fire Chief Bryan Ware says they haven’t received nearly enough moisture to better protect themselves during the summer fire season.
“Our November, December snowfalls were significantly better than years past, best in the past five years,” said Ware. “But the past eight weeks, we had an increase in temperatures and high winds. That dried out a lot of moisture out of our fields. We need some early Spring snow to lead us into Springtime.”
Fortunately for Ware, heavy snow is expected to hit early in the evening.
Beulah is under a winter weather warning for at least another 24 hours, and for people living in the area they can expect to get several inches of accumulation throughout tonight and into tomorrow.
Ware and his crew can only cross their fingers and hope for Spring snows.
