Hwy 50 reopened at Monarch Pass after avalanche

US Highway 50 was closed at Monarch Pass early Friday morning due to an avalanche.

The pass was reopened by about 9:15 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Colorado State Patrol Canon City reported that the avalanche happened right by Monarch Mountain. Deputies have yet to say if anyone was injured.

Just before 6 a.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation said crews were working on avalanche control between mile marker 190 and Monarch Pk Campground.

Hwy 50 reopened just after 9:00 a.m. Friday. A chain law continued to be in effect for the area.
