El Paso County woman faces 2 animal cruelty charges for emaciated horses

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office got a tip about animal neglect involving emaciated horses and ended up citing a caretaker for two counts of animal cruelty this weekend.

On Saturday, deputies went to the 13400 block of Paint Mine Road near Calhan (MAP) and found two horses that appeared to be emaciated. A veterinarian confirmed that the horses were neglected based on “the lack of feed and dental care,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The horses were both seized and taken to an ASPCA-approved boarding facility.

The caretaker of the horses, 61-year-old Alison Dixon, was “served and released.” No mugshot was available.
