Christopher Watts police interview audio released
A two-hour interview between police and Nichol Kessinger is among the thousands of documents, video, and photos released by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office this week.
Kessinger admitted to having an affair with Christopher Watts before he was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and two daughters.
She told police, “I think I met him sometime in June, probably early June. It might have been May. It was just talking at work. It was pretty casual.”
Over the course of their relationship, she told police Watts admitted to being a father of two and in the process of separation from his wife, but said she didn’t know who she was, despite police searches showing she searched the name, “Shannan Watts,” back in September of 2017.
Kessinger said, “Umm, I didn’t know his significant others name for a while.”
On Watts phone, thousands of images and text messages were found between them. Most of them weren’t found in the original search because Watts had hidden them in an app disguised as a calculator.
As their relationship continued and Kessinger reluctantly visiting their family home, she encouraged Watts to fix his marriage. She told police, “I just thought he had a beautiful life going on and he could have made it work.”
Unknowingly at the time, Watts texted Kessinger the day he killed his family. She said, “Chris is saying something needs to be addressed, but it didn’t sound like an emergency.”
What she didn’t know was he had already killed Shannan, Bella, Celeste and their unborn son, Niko.
