Von Miller, other Broncos donate $200,000 to police safety gear

Shield616 is getting a big boost of cash that will help outfit more than 125 police officers and firefighters with protective kits thanks to Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller and several of his teammates.

More than $200,000 has been committed to Shield616 from Miller, his teammates, and the organization. They’ll be on hand to help present police and firefighters with their kits on Dec. 20.

“When I heard there’s been more than 300 mass shootings in the last year alone, I felt like we needed to do something for those who protect us,” Miller said. “I hope that we can all help bridge the gap and work to improve relationships with law enforcement in our communities.”

The protective kits include a ballistic vest & helmet, along with a wound trauma kit. They are intended for active shooter situations and are designed to improve responders’ safety.

The organization has already outfitted the entire Colorado Springs Police Department and has provided the kits for other departments and offices around the state.
