Colorado Springs Airport avoids weather issues

Strong winds and light snow that blew across southern Colorado overnight Saturday had no negative impact on traffic at the Colorado Springs Airport.
By Sunday morning, winds subsided and most of the snow melted. The airport reported no flight cancellations or delays.

“We had a big rush of passengers for the first flights this morning,” an airline clerk said. “Since then, everything has been smooth.”

Lauren Klaven was boarding a flight to Phoenix.

“I’m worried about getting in a long line at the security checkpoint and leaving something behind,” she said. “I got here two hours early to make sure I didn’t miss my flight. My boyfriend thinks you don’t need that much time.”

“This is my first time flying, so I have no idea what to expect,” a male passenger said. “I’ve heard that it’s really busy on Thanksgiving weekend. Guess I’ll find out.”

Many passengers were curious about ongoing repair work because of a fire at the airport earlier this year.

“I was wondering about that,” the male passenger said. “I wasn’t sure if an airport normally looks like this or not.”

Other airports across the country didn’t fare as well. A winter storm in the Midwest delayed and canceled many flights Sunday. The storm is expected to move to the Northeast by Monday.
