Wildland fire in Otero County 95 percent contained

La Junta Fire Department said the Timber Fire is 95 percent contained after crews fought it for hours in Otero County.

Crews remain on scene putting out hot spots.

In a post on Facebook, La Junta Fire & EMS posted the Timber Fire is burning in northeastern Otero County near County Road MM.5 and County Road 33.

The fire started Saturday afternoon is estimated at 500 acres.

The department is expecting erratic winds throughout the night, and nearby residents could see heavy black soot in the air due to the fire.

Currently, no structures are threatened by the Timber Fire.

A total of 30 firefighters and support personnel from Otero County and surrounding areas are battling the Timber Fire.
