People seem to be jaywalking more frequently on S. Academy

It’s a problem plaguing Colorado Springs: people aren’t using the crosswalks and are instead putting their lives, and the lives of motorists, at risk.

“Nothing’s worth that risk,” said one woman.

We drove up and down Academy Boulevard and along Platte Ave. to see how many people we could catch scurrying across the road in between crosswalks.

For the most part, people were using the sidewalks and crosswalks, but there were the occasional daredevils dodging traffic, some narrowly missing cars.

Just remember, with the 41 traffic fatalities El Paso County has seen this year, it’s more important to wait for the crosswalk than to risk your life.
