Pueblo Zoo welcomes new African penguin chick

Two of the Pueblo Zoo’s most popular penguins have hatched their own chick.

Percy and Berry welcomed their chick at the end of September, according to an announcement made Wednesday by the Pueblo Zoo. The two African penguins are new parents, according to the zoo, which can make it more difficult to rear the chick.

The zoo says the baby is growing right on schedule and will be four weeks old on Thursday. Once the chick reaches four weeks, it will be moved closer to animal care staff and will learn how to be hand-fed.

We’ll know when the chick can be seen by guests when the zoo makes an announcement later on. Zoo officials said updates would be posted on their social media pages.
