Ballot confusion — have you done your research?

Elections in Colorado are just 13 days away, and we recently reported how important it was not to procrastinate on this year ‘ s ballot because it ‘ s the largest one in recent memory.

This year, every single person will see at least 14 ballot issues. So if you haven’t started yet, you might want to do some research. We’ve got a link to the state’s blue book, which outlines all of the issues, here.

One voter, Tyson Hartshorn, said he still has some work to do.

“Some, still need some work on some of the amendments but I’ve looked into the candidates that’s for sure,” Hartshorn said.

John Gurka added, “I’m a professional procrastinator and my wife and I are similarly minded so I ask her how she votes on these.”

Two of the bigger issues on this year ‘ s ballot are Proposition 112 and Amendment 74.

Proposition 112 mandates that new oil and gas development projects, including fracking, be at least 2,500 feet from any occupied buildings.

Gurka said he still needs to better understand it before voting, saying, “I think I would read it twice and then maybe see if it made sense for 100 percent certainty or do some research or ask my wife.”

Amendment 74 requires property owners be compensated for any loss in property value caused by state laws or regulations.

You have until November 6 to cast your vote.
