Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Cooler For Some – 9/30/18
Today: Mostly sunny and breezy at times this afternoon. Another surge of cooler air is sliding over parts of eastern Colorado bringing low clouds and fog, and it should hold temperatures down a bit over the plains today; this will be most notable east of the I-25 corridor and over northeastern Colorado. Over the mountains and valleys we don’t expect significant cooling today with high temperatures mainly 60s and 70s again. We’ll be breezy this afternoon with high temperatures to reach the 50s and 60s near the Kansas state line, 70s for Colorado Springs and Pueblo, lower 80s on the higher terrain southwest of Pueblo, but only 50s and 60s on the other side of the Palmer Divide from Denver eastward.
Tonight: The wind will decrease and the sky will remain mostly clear over and near the mountains, but the shallow layer of colder air over the plains might cause pockets of low cloud cover and/or patchy fog to develop over low lying areas at times through the night. By morning the air should have cooled into the 50s for the plains, mainly 40s for our local mountain areas.
Extended: We will continue track a shallow pool of cold air that will be meandering around the plains of eastern Colorado over the next couple of days. Although it appears the heart of the cold air will generally remain east of I-25 it’s at least possible that some areas of patchy low cloud cover will be found mainly east of I-25 at times during the late night and early morning hours through Tuesday. A weak upper level system should bring some clouds and possibly some spotty showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two to the area Tuesday, but we don’t expect widespread, heavy rain. Wednesday should be breezy and very warm with temperatures reaching the 80s to lower 90s for the plains, mainly 70s over the mountains. Cooler air will again work over the area Thursday into Friday, and by late Friday areas of rain, and possibly even some mountain snow could develop. Temperatures by Friday afternoon may be falling into the 50s and 60s.
