Cotopaxi shooting victim identified, Fremont County notes rise in homicides
The man who was shot dead Saturday night in Cotopaxi has been identified, and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is noting a big rise in homicide cases.
Jonathan Kern, 30, was identified Wednesday as the victim who was found dead in the driveway near K Path and 30th Trail.
Deputies are following leads, but no arrest has been made in Kern’s death.
During a news conference Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said there are five open homicide cases since 2017, which is the most open cases they’ve seen in 17 years. The sheriff’s office said none of the homicides are related to each other, but drugs are suspected in some of the homicides.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. in the area of K Path and 30th Trail.
Fremont County deputies, investigators, and CBI are ruling the death a homicide.
The identity of the victim has not been released yet.
Investigators said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
