Garden of the Gods blue frame found dumped in storage lot
Many locals in Colorado Springs remember a blue frame being placed at Garden of the Gods last December, but not everyone knows what happened to it.
A viewer found the sign upside down in a city storage area and shared a picture of it this week, and this time, people are happy with where it is.
The blue frame caused quite the ruckus after being placed at Garden of the Gods back in December, sparking a petition that racked up nearly 20,000 signatures.
“It’s blue and not a color that occurs in nature,” said Tricia Muehlbauer of Colorado Springs.
“It was an inappropriate spot,” said George Gleason of Colorado Springs.
“It was so ugly at the garden,” said Fred Wright, who walks by the sign’s new resting place twice a week. “They could have chosen a better color and they might have been more acceptable, but putting in a light blue sign in that beautiful place was not acceptable.”
When the sign was first removed from Garden of the Gods eight months ago, we asked Parks and Recreation where it was being stored, but they never got back to us. So when people called us saying they had spotted it, we decided to check it out.
The sign can now be found along a dirt trail near Fontanero Street, a spot many say is more appropriate.
“I think this is a great place for it,” said Gaynell Lucero, a Colorado Springs native. “Nobody can see it, it’s kind of hidden.”
“This is just somewhere to dump anything that’s garbage,” Wright said.
While it stuck out like a sore thumb at Garden of the Gods, many people who often walk past it say they never even noticed it.
“I’d never really give it much thought if I’d see it again, frankly,” said Muehlbauer.
“It’s not really up where people would have seen it,” said Oma Schreg.
Now, people here say they’re happy it’s been lost in the shadows.
After it was removed, the city said they had plans to move this sign to another area. But our calls to the Parks and Recreation office about the sign’s future were not returned.
Friday afternoon, the sign was covered with a big blue tarp.
