Two PPIHC legendary drivers
Paul Dallenbach returns to Pikes Peak for his 25th anniversary after missing the 2017 race, “It was good to get a year off, it kind of made me hungry to come back. Watching the times on race day and seeing my open wheel record fall it was like ‘ok I gotta go back,'” says Dallenbach.
They’ve conquered the mountain for a quarter century but what makes Rhys Millen and Dallenbach continue to make this yearly pilgrimage?, “This event is so unique to anything else I do in motorsport. It’s only 10 minutes, only 12 miles, but the pressure to perform and have everything perfect as a perfect run for a driver and for the mechanics of the car is really what keeps me coming back,” says Millen.
This year, some added pressure to the rivalry, Millen brought a fancy new Bentley to the hill, “This thing is a beast, we’re running around 4 seconds a mile faster than what I actually gave the vehicle credit for,” says Millen.
If things go well, Millen could break Dallenbach’s production S-U-V record but Paul may have the last laugh, “You know we’re good friends, I already texted him that I’ve talked to Audi and Lamborghini and I’m gonna come back next year and he’s just you know, he’s all for it,” says Dallenbach.
