Are you aware of the “100 Deadliest Days” on Colorado roads?

The time between Memorial and Labor Day weekends is being called the “100 Deadliest Days” on Colorado Roads.

That’s a distinction made by the Colorado Department of Transportation, which says there tends to be a spike in traffic fatalities during that time.

So far in 2018, 254 people have died on Colorado roads. El Paso County leads the state so far with 32 traffic deaths since January. Since 2013, 908 people have died in crashes on Colorado roads between June and August, accounting for nearly one-third of total traffic deaths in the state.

The second highest county on the list is Weld County, with 27 deaths so far.

CDOT is pairing with law enforcement agencies across the state to implement multiple safety enforcement and outreach efforts across the state.

These agencies will focus on impaired drivers, seat belt safety, child passenger safety, motorcycle safety, and teen driving outreach.

During these summer months, CDOT says there are more cars on the road, an increase in motorcyclists and teen drivers, and a historic increase in impaired driving. All of these factors contribute to the traffic fatalities, CDOT said.

In 2017, June, July, and August accounted for the three months with the highest fatalities compared to other months of that year.
