Driver arrested for fatal rollover crash in Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs police arrested the driver and identified the person who was killed after an SUV rolled nearly 100 yards near Interstate 25 and S. Circle Drive Tuesday morning.
Steven Webb, 33, was driving the SUV when it hit a median and rolled over multiple times, CSPD said. His passenger, 30-year-old Vincent Romero, was ejected and killed because of the crash.
Webb was taken to the hospital with injuries, but he was also arrested for vehicular homicide, according to CSPD. A mugshot wasn’t made immediately available.
Previous Story
One man is dead, and another is in critical condition, after a rollover crash in Colorado Springs.
The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the intersection of Circle Dr. & Janitell Rd.
Springs Police confirm the driver of a Chevrolet Trailblazer lost control and rolled the SUV at least 100 yards.
“It’s terrible that someone lost their life,” said John Stephens, a neighbor living nearby. “People always run the red light down there.”
The passenger was ejected and was declared dead at the scene. The other man was transported to the hospital currently in critical condition. The westbound lanes of Circle Dr. reopened just before 9 a.m.
Investigators believe speed played a role in this crash.
Lt. Howard Black says deadly traffic accidents continue to get worse. At this time last year, there were 13 deadly car accidents. So far this year, there have been 18, likely to be 19 if the coroner counts Tuesday’s accident.
“It’s sad the overwhelming majority of these crashes don’t need to occur,” said Lt. Howard Black.
We won’t know the name of the victim until the coroner releases the autopsy.
It’s unclear if the driver will face any criminal charges.
