Someone in southern Colorado is shooting wildlife with blow darts
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials are on high alert after bands of local wildlife were recently found shot with blow darts–some with the darts still dangling from their necks.
Officials are asking for help from the public in solving these cases, which they deem as “wildlife harassment,” according to Frank McGee, area wildlife manager for the Pikes Peak Region.
“It’s something that we take very seriously. But we need the public’s help catching whoever is doing this,” McGee said.
The rash of reports mostly stem from the southeastern region of Colorado Springs, ranging from Fountain to the Kissing Camels Golf Course on the west side. At least one rabbit died from being darted.
Anyone found shooting these blow darts could face misdemeanor charges, including harassment of wildlife, hunting small game without a license, and hunting out of season; possible fines reach up to $100 and more, depending on the charge, according to CPW.
McGee encourages anyone with information to contact CPW’s Southeast Regional Office at 719-227-5200.
