Meaning of Memorial Day on display at Evergreen Cemetery
Tim Wilson brought his two young daughters to the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs to teach them about what Memorial Day really means.
The veteran and his two girls were a few of the hundreds of community members who paid their respects at the cemetery Monday.“People always stop and thank the veterans, but Memorial Day is really for the people who are not around to be thanked,” Wilson said.
Amara White, 11, visited the cemetery with her father and two siblings. “I came out to honor all the lives that have been sacrificed for us,” said White, as she walked through the rows of military headstones decorated with American flags.

The cemetery also held a commemoration for the 10th US Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers.
A butterfly release closed the services.
