Gas prices soar just in time for Memorial Day weekend

Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and people all over Southern Colorado, and the nation, are road tripping this weekend. But gas prices are very high, lowering the number of people traveling this holiday weekend.

The average price for a gallon of gas across the country is now $2.94, up $.54 from last year.

Here in Southern Colorado, the average gas price is $2.88. That’s up $.30 from last month.

Triple-A says an extra 100 pounds reduces fuel economy by up to 1 percent, so make sure to empty out your trunk.

Always check your tire pressure too and make sure to follow the speed limit, both to save your fuel and your life.
