NORAD and Northern Command recognize new commander
NORAD and the US Northern Command welcomed in Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy as their new commander Thursday, while celebrating Gen. Lori Robinson’s 36 years of service.
Secretary of Defense James Mattis attended the ceremony, saying, “What remains, General Robinson, is a profound respect for how you have led these teams and recognition of the very high expectation, General O’Shaughnessy, as you take on the responsibility.”
O’Shaughnessy spent the majority of his speech thanking those who have helped in along the way.
“Team NORAD and team North Comm, I am grateful for the opportunity to join this watch and execute this scared mission with you. All orders and directives stand as ordered by General Robinson,” O’Shaughnessy said.
Before relinquishing her title, Robinson became emotional, saying, “There is no sacred, greater responsibility than the defense of our homeland. I’ll never forget the great honor and privilege of this responsibility.”
