Thief caught on camera stealing from brewery in Colorado Springs
A new brewery in Colorado Springs won’t open as planned because of a thief who stole thousands of dollars of tools and equipment. But there was something the thief didn’t count on – surveillance video.
A new lock and door handle was an easy fix. The hard part for Chase Perry was replacing all the tools and laptops stolen from metric brewery early Monday morning.
“Everything we had was in here. I mean he did leave a few things but like this was full of tools he left just like junk,” he said.
The brewery is supposed to open this month, but now that’s on hold.
“Without all those tools we’re in a set back right now,” he said.
Perry says there is some hope of retrieving the property. The whole break-in was caught on surveillance.
“He looks to be mid 30’s maybe early 40’s. He’s a white male wearing a very distinct yellow shirt at the time,” he said.
Perry doesn’t recognize him – but now police have a suspect.
“Police came in and did DNA and fingerprinting. If he’s in the system he might pop-up,” he said.
The other bit of good news: The fermenters worth $150,000 all together weren’t damaged and he can still produce beer.
As a new business owner, Perry says the damage is a big hit.
There is no timeline on a grand opening, but thankfully, he’s insured.
The security cameras were installed about three months ago. Perry says it was a main priority because the equipment he uses is expensive.
