2 juveniles caught making threat at Pueblo West middle school
The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says investigators identified two juveniles responsible for the threat that prompted a lockdown at Liberty Point International Middle School in Pueblo West.
District 70 officials worked with detectives and reviewed video footage to narrow down who wrote the note that was found in the girls’ locker room. Their identities aren’t being released because they’re juveniles.
The threat was determined to not be credible, but the juveniles will face school disciplinary action and possible criminal charges.
The school was on lockdown throughout the day, but PCSO says about half of the school’s students were released to parents before the school day ended.
Earlier
District 70 officials and law enforcement officers were on the Liberty Point International campus investigating a threat that was found in the girls’ locker room.
The note alleged that there would be a shooting around 10:30.
The threat involved the broader school campus, which includes Liberty Point Elementary School, located on Hahns Peak Avenue northwest of downtown Pueblo.
Parents were contacted by a message system and had the option to pick up their student from school. A little over half of the students were picked up.
There is no confirmation at this time about the validity of the threat or who wrote it. Investigators will be at the school throughout the day.
Since District 70 has a four day school week, there will be no school tomorrow.
The District is advising the public to contact the sheriff’s office with any information.
